The European Economic and Social Committee and the democratic forces of Belarus signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday in Brussels.
It is intended to lay the foundations for enhanced cooperation between the parties – in particular, to strengthen ties between civil society and independent media in EU countries and Belarus, as well as to facilitate the participation of Belarusian democratic institutions and NGOs in European civil society networks.
Cooperation will span the following areas:
- Strengthening interaction between the European Economic and Social Committee, the democratic forces of Belarus, and Belarusian civil society organizations;
- Holding joint activities to raise awareness of the internal situation in Belarus regarding human rights violations;
- Promoting and supporting Belarusian independent media and journalists;
- Organizing events aimed at promoting Belarusian heritage, culture, and language in EU countries;
- Developing and implementing joint initiatives to counter disinformation and propaganda;
- Assisting in the development and evaluation of reforms for future Belarus, as well as sharing best practices and experience in democratic transition.
